As the school year comes to a close, Rancho Verde is proud to announce it’s Male and Female Senior Athletes of the Year. Congratulations to our Male Athlete of the Year, Kevin Flores, and our Female Senior Athlete of the Year, Destiny Longmire.
Kevin was the goalkeeper on Rancho Verde’s Inland Valley League Championship Boys Soccer team this season. The Mustangs compiled a 23-7-2 overall record, and an 8-1-1 IVL mark, on their way to the first league championship for boys soccer in quite sometime. The season continued with a magical run to the CIF Semifinals and a tough 2-1 loss to Long Beach Jordan. RVHS qualified for the state tournament for the first time in school history, and took a grueling bus ride to Granada Hills, where their season ended with a 2-0 loss. Flores was a wall at the back of a stingy Mustang defense this season, allowing only 16 goals in 28 games played.
This spring has been a parade of accomplishments for Destiny in Track and Field. The San Jose State commit stormed through Inland Valley League Finals, and was crowned IVL Champion in the Long Jump, 100m, and 4x100m relay (and a close 2nd place in the Triple Jump). This past week, after breezing through CIF Prelims, Destiny jumped a season best 20-3.75 to win the CIF Division 1 Long Jump Championship. By virtue of her performances in both the Long Jump and 100m, Destiny has advanced to the CIF Masters Meet, this Friday at Cerritos College in both events. Longmire currently holds the 2nd best mark in the state this season in the Long Jump.
Congratulations again to both Kevin and Destiny on their accomplishments this year.
