The Rancho Verde Track and Field team came out of the blocks fast this year and haven’t looked back since. The Mustangs have hit several state and national marks this season at some of largest and most well recognized meets around (Arcadia, Mt. SAC). On the Boys side, the 4×400 relay ran the fastest time in the state this season at 3:14.05 (Isaac Grimes, Isaiah Cunningham, Cameron Samuel, Rasaun House), set last weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays. Samuel also owns the 3rd fastest time in the state in the 300m hurdles (37.09) and the 10th fastest time in the nation, set at Mt. SAC this past weekend.
Cunningham owns a slew of top state times this year, including: 10.59 in the 100 meters (4th in CA), 21.15 in the 200 meters (2nd in CA), and 47.68 in the 400 meters (2nd in CA). The junior sprinter would own the top state times in the 200 and 400 if not for Vista Murrieta’s Michael Norman (Sr), widely regarded as the top high school track athlete in the country (committed to USC and Olympic hopeful). Cunningham also holds RVHS school records in all 3 races.
On the girls team, Destiny Longmire is having a standout senior year, and is ranked #1 in Southern Section Division 1 in both the Long Jump and the Triple Jump. Longmire owns the 8th best mark in the state this year in the Long Jump at 19′ 3.5. The girls 4×100 relay also ran the 8th fastest time in the Southern Section D1 this year at 48.32.
