The Rancho Verde Boys Basketball and Soccer teams will be vying for Inland Valley League titles this week, as the regular season comes to a close. In Boys Hoops, the Mustangs (24-1 overall) are tied atop the standings with JW North at 7-1, with a showdown vs. the Huskies on Tuesday evening in Riverside. RVHS then finishes their league schedule at Arlington on Thursday. Boys Basketball is also one of the 26 remaining teams on the Southern Section Open Division watch-list, which selects the best 16 teams from over 570 schools in the Southern Section. The winner of the RV/North matchup will most likely make the Open Division bracket, which will be announced on Friday, 2/12/16.
Boys Soccer (18-5-2 overall) is also tied atop the IVL standings with a record of 6-1-1. The Mustangs are tied (on points) with Arlington’s league mark of 5-0-3, with a showdown against the Lions looming on Thursday evening. First, RVHS will try to avenge their only league loss of the season when they travel to JW North on Tuesday. In the most recent CIF Division 2 Soccer poll, the Mustangs are ranked #8, which seems a little low given the strength of the boys soccer teams in the IVL. Rancho Verde will look to build momentum moving into the playoffs next week, and build on their CIF Quarterfinal appearance from a year ago.
Support our playoff bound Boys Soccer and Basketball teams this week as they play for league championships at JW North on Tuesday (Soccer at 5pm, Hoops at 6pm) and Arlington on Thursday (both games at 6pm)! See you at the games!
