The RVHS Varsity Football team posted back to back blowout victories in their first two weeks of Inland Valley League competition. Eleven days ago, the Mustangs got their offense rolling early and often as they posted a 70-3 halftime score over Valley View HS, on their way to a 70-10 victory. Then, this past Friday, the Mustangs stampeded to a 63-8 halftime score, on their way to a 76-8 win over Canyon Springs HS. Rancho Verde’s overall record now stands at 5-2 (2-0 in the IVL).
The Mustang’s high powered offense is averaging 51 points per game on the season, while giving up a hair under 20 points per game. Leading the way on offense is Senior tailback Jamal Scott, who has rushed for 987 yards and 12 TDs in only 5 games of work this year. Junior QB E.J. Steward has thrown for 18 TDs on the season with only 2 interceptions. Junior Bryan Thompson leads a talented Mustang receiving corps with 32 catches for 620 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Defending IVL Champs, Riverside Poly, also moved to 2-0 in IVL play, with victories over Arlington and Valley View the past 2 weeks. This week’s battle of undefeated league teams will take place at Riverside Community College, Friday night (10/23), at 7:00pm. The Bears come into the contest with an overall record of 3-4, but are defending CIF Inland Division Finalists from a year ago. Come out Friday night to RCC and watch the showdown!
