The Rancho Verde Boys and Girls Cross Country teams have had a busy couple weeks. This past weekend, the Mustangs co-hosted the Perris Valley XC Showdown with the Perris HS Cross Country program. Twelve schools participated in the weekend invite (over 280 athletes), with RVHS sweeping the Boys Division at the Frosh/Soph, Jr/Sr, and Varsity levels. The Girls team from West Valley HS took home 1st place in both the Frosh/Soph and Varsity division races, while Tahquitz HS finished first in the Girls Jr/Sr race.
Some great local sponsors supported this growing event including: The Boys and Girls Club of Perris (medals, trophies, plaques), BJs Restaurant of Moreno Valley (a bottled water and sandwich for every athlete – WOW!), and Pizza Factory of Moreno Valley (concessions). All of the coaches from Rancho Verde (Coach Winter, Coach Lopez, Coach Mendoza, and Coach Monterola) did a great job timing and managing the event. Special thanks to the Athletic Trainer from Perris HS, and student trainers from Citrus Hill HS for their hard work at this large event, as well as to all the parent volunteers who donated their time.
This past Wednesday, the RVHS Cross Country teams competed in the 2nd IVL League Meet at Andulka Park in Riverside. This meet was particularly challenging because RVHS students took the SAT and PSAT the morning of the meet and then hustled on to the bus to get to the meet on time. The Mustang Boys Varsity Team all improved their times from the 1st league meet for a 2nd place finish, to put themselves in contention for league finals in a couple weeks. Many of the Girls Varsity Team also improved their times (they finished 2nd in the 1st league meet), but so did many other league schools, and they took 5th place. Coach Winter is confident that both the boys and girls team can peak at the right time for league finals. Keep up the good work!
