Boys Soccer Has Record Setting Season

The Rancho Verde Varsity Boys Soccer team had a season to remember in 2015-16.  The Mustangs set a school record for wins, 21, on their way to an Inland Valley League Championship.  A CIF semifinal playoff run also marked the deepest the Boys Soccer program has advanced in the playoffs, matching Football and Boys and Girls Basketball, as the only RVHS teams to reach the CIF Semis.  2015-16 also marked the first appearance of Boys Soccer in the state regional playoffs, where the Mustangs fell to eventual regional finalist Granada Hills.

With an overall record of 21-5-4 and 8-1-1 in the IVL, the Mustangs notched an Inland Valley League title for the first time since 2007, and brought home only the 2nd league championship in school history for boys soccer.  1st Team All IVL selections for the Mustangs included: Offensive MVP Alfredo Moreira, Omar Caballero (Sr. Captain), Eduardo “Jaguar” Garcia (Sr. Captain), Brian “Payo” Luna (Sr.), and Kevin Flores (Sr.).  2nd Team IVL selections for the Mustangs were: Ricardo Elias (Jr.), Alberto “Beto” Garcia (Sr.), Andy Ledesma (Jr.), Kevin Marrero (Sr.), and Hugo Bernal (Sr.).The accolades continued this week for the Mustangs, as Moreira and Caballero were named to the Division 2 All CIF Team.

Congratulations to all the student-athletes in the Boys Soccer program as well as Head Coach Steve Brockman, and Assistant Coaches Henry Moreira, Adam Bowlan, and Gabriel Esqueda.
