In their opening round CIF Inland Division playoff game, the Rancho Verde Mustangs scored 49 first half points, en route to a 69-29 victory over the Elsinore Tigers.  Coach Jeff Steinberg’s first playoff win as the head coach of the Mustangs, sets up a CIF Quarterfinal rematch with Redlands East Valley HS, a 73-0 winner over Jurupa Hills.

Rancho Verde’s offense came out firing on all cylinders right from the start vs. the Tigers, scoring touchdowns on 6 of their first 13 plays from scrimmage.  Senior RB Jamal Scott had a statistically mind boggling night, rushing 5 times for 230 yards and 5 touchdowns (yes that’s a 46 yards per carry average).  Bryan Thompson, Tyler Kennedy and Manuel Allen had receiving TDs from Junior QB EJ Stewart, who completed 11 of 12 passes for 277 yards.  Darius Ruff and Daeoun Pope added rushing touchdowns for Rancho Verde as well.

In their first matchup, Redlands East Valley narrowly defeated the Mustangs 38-34 in the 4th week of the preseason.  The winner of Friday’s rematch will face either Citrus Hill HS or Redlands HS in the semifinals the day after Thanksgiving.  Game time this Friday (11/20) is 7:00pm at Rancho Verde.  CIF Football Ticket prices are: $10 for Adults, and $5 for Students w/ ID and Children 5-13.
