The Rancho Verde Football team overcame a 14 point second half deficit, to tie the game late in the 4th quarter vs. district rival Citrus Hill.  Unfortunately, the Mustangs couldn’t hold the Hawks on the next possession, and Citrus Hill came away with a 28-21 victory in the 2nd annual “Battle of the Torch.”

Junior QB E.J. Stewart threw two TD passes for the Mustangs (Manuel Allen and Brian Thompson), and Senior RB Jamal Scott rushed for the game tying TD late in the 4th quarter.  However, the Mustangs couldn’t overcome a monster effort by Hawks Senior RB Devin Floyd.  Floyd rushed for 251 yards and 3 touchdowns, including the decisive score with under 4 minutes remaining in the game.

This week, the Mustangs travel to Murrieta Mesa, where they will battle the Rams on Friday, 9/4 at 7:00pm.  The Rams are coming off a 39-0 victory over St. Francis (Hawaii).
